Launch a monthly box program
This tutorial covers both flavors of RebillCart’s box program: a merchant-curated box (you decide the contents each month) and build-a-box (customers pick their own items).
Available on the Pro plan. See Pricing & Plans. Background reading: Monthly Boxes & Build-a-Box.
Option A: Curated monthly box
1. Create the box product
- Go to Bundles → Create bundle.
- Choose Curated box as the type.
- Either attach an existing product, or use Create a box product to have RebillCart mint a new one (name + price) and auto-publish it to your Online Store.
2. Curate this month’s contents
- Open the bundle’s current period (e.g. this calendar month).
- Add the products/variants and quantities that make up this month’s box.
- Lock it once you’re confident in the contents — locking is what makes it eligible to send.
3. Run the safety check before it ships
- Open the box in the Bundles editor (or the Risk Center if you’re also on that page) and check the “safe to send” gate.
- Review the propagation dry-run preview — exactly who will receive this cycle’s box, who’s already covered, and who would be blocked.
- Check the inventory forecast against your live Shopify stock to catch a shortfall before it becomes a shipping problem.
4. Let it run
Once locked and safe-to-send, RebillCart’s daily propagation engine rewrites each subscriber’s order to the current month’s contents automatically — you don’t need to touch individual subscriptions. New subscribers who join mid-month are covered instantly, not on the next daily run.
Option B: Build-a-box (customer-picked)
1. Create the bundle
- Go to Bundles → Create bundle.
- Choose Build-a-box as the type.
- Set minimum / maximum item count per box.
2. Build the menu
- Add every product/variant customers can choose from.
- Choose a menu source:
- Stable pool (default) — one menu that never expires, good for an ongoing build-your-own program (e.g. snack or coffee subscriptions).
- Rotating monthly — the menu itself changes each month, for seasonal programs.
3. Add the widget
The storefront widget automatically shows the picker on the product page:
- For a one-time purchase, the customer’s picks ship with that exact order.
- For a subscription, the customer picks each cycle from the portal before the cutoff; the product page instead shows a read-only “what’s inside” preview.
4. Verify
- As a test customer, select items up to the max and confirm add-to-cart is blocked below the configured minimum.
- Complete a test checkout and confirm the order’s line items match what was picked.
- For subscriptions, open the portal and confirm the picker appears ahead of the next cycle’s cutoff.
Next steps
Keep an eye on the Subscription Risk Center as your box program grows — it’s the fastest way to catch an empty box, a stock shortfall, or a stalled propagation before a subscriber notices.
